The Champions league has returned and there’s not better game to begin the knockout stage of the competition with than a heavyweight clash between Europe’s elite clubs.
Real Madrid are the most successful team in the competition while PSG has never won the trophy and have underwhelmed severally since 2012 when they were taken over by Arab owners.
PSG would be parading an attack of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe while Real Madrid would be looking onto Benzema, Vinicius Jr and Gareth Bale.
While PSG posses bigger star names in attack, Real Madrid is the more stable team and would fancy their chances of an away win in Paris.
Here are reasons why Real Madrid could win the first leg.
PSG lacks team spirit
Football is a team game and Real Madrid are more of a team right now than PSG. The Parisians are over dependent on their star names. Most of the time they just pass it to Messi or Mbappe and let either players do their thing.
On the other hand, Real Madrid are dependent on the whole team. Everyone is important and no one player is needed to get results. Real Madrid could easily m ark Mbappe out of the game and stop PSG, their opponents can’t stop them by stopping Benzema.
Historical advantage
Real Madrid have the historical advantage in this game. They drew this same opponents in this same stage in 2018. Cristiano Ronaldo ran the show on that occasion, scoring three goals over the two legs as Real Madrid won 5:2 on aggregate.
PSG have usually struggled in the Round of 16 of this competition, making it past this stage only twice in the past 5 years.
Current form

Both of these teams are top of the league and lead 2nd place by a tangible amount of points. However, PSG has been visibly struggling in Ligue 1 while Real Madrid are putting up strong performances in La Liga.
On current form, Real are quite stronger than PSG and would be confident of their chances of victory tonight.
