Nigerian students: 5 things you can do for yourself during the ongoing strike.

It is no longer news that ASUU has commenced its one month warning strike. The strike is meant to draw the attention of the Federal government towards the needs of the union and federal universities as well. All this means tat students in public universities will have to remain at home for a month. Below are some things you could be doing to maximize your holidays.

✓ Learn a skill.

This may sound cliche but the truth is that the Nigerian economy is not in great shape. You should not finish school without knowing how you are going to earn a living. Many parents cease providing for their children after school because they believe the child should be able to do that. Now that there’s lesser opportunities of securing a job after graduation, you should take charge and plan ahead. Pick a skill that you want to learn, visit YouTube and watch relevant videos. You could also go where the skill is being practiced and volunteer to work there for free. You will not regret this move.

✓ Don’t dump your books.

It’s a bad idea to not read anything during this strike. You should not forget your academics despite the current situation. For some of us, this period should be one where we try to read everyday especially if your CGPA could use some help. If you keep reading your school books this period, you can be rest assured that you will not forget what you have learnt so far, you will do better when exams come and you will not struggle when we eventually resume.

✓ Catch up with news and trends.

This period, make it a habit to visit news websites. You should be abreast with whatever is going on in Nigeria and in the world. You should attend relevant events happening around you. This is also a period where you can get to read other books that are not connected to what you are studying in school.

✓ Practice personal development

This is a period where you can pick up good habits that you will find useful. Learn how to wake up early. Learn how to exercise regularly. Learn how to make and eat wholesome foods. Learn how to go to bed on time. Learn how to stop procrastinating. Learn how to be consistent at what you do. Also, you should pick up basic computer skills. You could also try to master your mobile phone.

✓ You should visit your parents.

I know quite a number of people that are not planning to go home. Their reasons are valid. However, I am you to go home and spend some time with your parents. You don’t know how much time you have left with them. Plus, you should visit those friends you have not been able to catch up with because of academic stress. Investing in those relationships is totally worth it.

I hope that this one month or more that we are spending at home will not go to waste. Be intentional about how you are going to spend the compulsory holidays. I am rooting for you.

Tell me how you are planning to spend your holiday in the comments section. Cheers.
