How Chelsea’s First Ever Black Player Rebuked Craig Burley For Criticising The Club’s FIFA CWC Win

Chelsea’s first ever black player, Paul Canoville has joined a long list of people who have rebuked the actions of Craig Burley, the former Chelsea midfielder who heavily criticised the club’s celebration of winning the FIFA Club World Cup title in Abu Dhabi last weekend.

The 59 years Paul Canoville who was signed by Chelsea from Hillingdon Borough in 1981, and went on to win the Second Division title with the club in the 1983–84 season took to his twitter account to rebuke Craig Burley.

What He Said

“Dear Craig, why you got such a chip on your shoulder? What did Chelsea FC ever do to you apart from give you a career? That was a pathetic attack on the players whose efforts applauded by club legends like Didier Drogba. Nasty attention seeking punditry.”

Mr Paul Canoville, like many Chelsea fans were less than impressed by what the ESPN pundit had to say after the club won the only trophy they were yet to win.

He called it the trophy ” a plastic cup” after referring to the final as a glorified friendly match.

Mr Paul Canoville saw those comments as an attack on the players’ effort to make sure they won the title. This is something that clubs legend like Didier Drogba, John Terry and co. have applauded.

This is what Didier Drogba had to say, after watching the Blues win the beautiful trophy:

“We couldn’t win it, I wasn’t there, we lost it, that’s why I came to support, it’s good to see them lifting this trophy that we were missing, I told the boss that this is the only one we were missing!”

After Paul Canoville’s comments, many Chelsea fans quickly reacted, supporting everything the man had to say.

How The Fans Reacted

Personally, i like how Paul Canoville called out Craig Burley. The ESPN pundit did not need to attack the club the way he did and he deserved to be Rebuked.

It is okay to not be impressed that the club won a trophy, even though he never won a title while playing for them, but he should have kept his opinion to himself.

Yes, ESPN pays him to offer his opinion, but no one needs to hear a professional being completely unprofessional and sounding really sentimental in the studio.
