How Makinde and Okowa May Become More Influential If PDP Throws Presidential Ticket Open

The contest for the 2023 presidential ticket of the main opposition party in the country, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may unexpectedly elevate the political influences of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; and his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa. This may occur, if the national leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), finally, decide to throw the presidential ticket of the party open.

Although, these two Executive Governors who were elected under the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are not the only political figures in the party, but they have common stance which may project them to be more honored, respected and have their political supports being solicited for, by majority of their colleagues in the PDP Governors’ Forum.

Arguably, the other leaders of the party who may have interests in whom should become the presidential candidate of the party, ahead of the 2023 general elections may also see them as rally points.

Considerably, if the presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is thrown open, there may be more aspirants; the power blocs may become more porous and only the exceptional power Blocs will, probably, become glorified. How do I mean?

I mean that with the number of presidential aspirants coming from the Northern part of Nigeria, under the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the political influences of the party’s leaders from the North may, considerably, become weaker, porous and there may be necessity for the presidential aspirants from both the North and South to look toward the Southern part of the country, in the course of garnering more supports for the emancipation of their political ambitions.

Everything remains constant, it could be recalled that Rivers State Governor, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, who could be considered as one of the pillars of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South is being perceived to be a potential presidential running mate to some northern presidential aspirants; also, the fact that some eastern PDP governors are being perceived to be nursing either presidential or vice presidential ambitions may shift attentions to Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, in the course of hunting for more supports by the presidential aspirants.

Know this and know peace, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa could be considered as a silent respectful power bloc within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), if one could remember the cordial relationship between him and the erstwhile National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, and his loyalists across the nation.

Besides, like him or hate him, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde remains the superior leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest and, consider this, wherever he goes, the majority of the party members will follow in the region.

All in all, since Seyi Makinde would be vying for his second term election as the Executive Governor of Oyo State and his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa, has not been perceived of nursing presidential ambition, they would be, considerably, ready to use their political influences to support any presidential aspirant who give them the deserved political honor and credibility, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
