Preview, Team News and Predicted Lineup Ahead of Man United’s Clash Against Southampton

After Man United’s disappointing draw against Burnley, Man United will be looking to return to winning ways when they play host to 10th placed Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday by 13:30 BST.

Man United have produced decent performances in recent times, but the result shows otherwise. This is due to their lack of finishing in front of goal. Man United have what it takes to beat Southampton, but if they continue to miss open chances like they did against Burnley and Middlesbrough, then Southampton could cause an upset at Old Trafford.

Man United currently sit on 6th place with 39 points in the EPL Table and a win in this fixture could see them move up to 4th in the table, pending the results of Arsenal and West Ham. 

Southampton on the other hand were 3-2 winners when they traveled to White Hart lane to face Tottenham. This could mean that they are up for a fight against a Man United side who have found it difficult scoring lately and a win for the away side wouldn’t be a shock.

However, they lost this fixture 9-0 at Old Trafford last Season and could well be aware of the threat Man United pose after meeting earlier this Season in a 1-1 draw at the St Mary’s Stadium.

Man United will continue to be without Eric Bailly due to his swollen ankle. However, they do have other options in defence like Maguire and Varane. Alex Telles could be unavailable for this clash after he contracted COVID 19 that ruled him out against Middlesbrough and Burnley. Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot should retain their spot in the Starting XI.

Fred could still be unavailable for same reasons as Telles. Therefore, Pogba and Mctominay could be holding midfielders. Elanga could return to the Starting XI alongside Fernandes and Sancho. Ronaldo should return to the Starting XI after being benched against Burnley. Everything sums to be a 4-2-3-1 formation.
