Asantehemaa Clears Hospital Bills Of MBU, PEU, PICU Patients At KATH Ahead Of 5th Anniversary

The Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III has cleared medical bills of patients at the Mother-Baby Unit (MBU), Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Paediatric Emergency Unit (PEU) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi (KATH), ahead of her fifth-anniversary celebration.

The Asantehemaa also donated packages of food and washing powder to mothers whose children have been admitted to KATH and the Manhyia District Hospital.

On behalf of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, a delegation of Queenmothers led by the Asante Mamponghemaa Nana Agyakoma Difie II, visited the KATH and the Manhyia District Hospital to donate the handouts.

The delegation included; Agonamanhemaa, Nana Acheampomaa Ntansah, Ejisuhemaa, Nana Yaa Asantewaa II, Agogomanhemaa, Nana Afrakoma Serwaa Kusi Obuadum, Otumfuo Fontomfromhemaa Nana Ama Achiaa, Abradehemaa, Abrafi Mansa, Tepamanhemaa, Nana Agyeiwaa Paamu II, and Kenyase No.1 manhemaa, Nana Yaa Adutwumwaa II.

At KATH, the Queenmothers were received by the hospital’s Director of Pharmacy, Anthony Kofi Mensah and Acting Director Of Nursing Mrs. Rose Boakye who is also the Chief Nursing Officer and Delphina Owen. They were later joined by the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso.

When the Asante Mamponghemaa Nana Agyakoma Difie II broke the news that medical bills of MBU, PICU, and PEU patients scheduled to be discharged today, and patients scheduled for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan would be absorbed by the Asantehemaa, mothers at the units beamed with joy.

In addition to the items, one hundred chairs and stools were also donated to provide convenience to mothers whose babies will be admitted to the unit.

Packages of food were also given out to mothers at KATH’s MBU, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Paediatric Emergency Unit (PEU) where it was announced that the Asantehemaa hoped to make the act an annual activity.

The CEO Of the KATH after joining the ride to distribute the package of foods to the various units expressed immense gratitude to the Asantehemaa.

The Queenmothers found their way to the Manhyia District Hospital from KATH, where they were received by the hospital’s Nurse Manager, Gladys Abban, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. K.K. Hussein, and the Paediatrician Specialist, Dr. Catherine Tetteh.

Items were given out to mothers whose babies had been admitted.

The gesture comes ahead of the Asantehemaa’s 5th Anniversary Celebration dubbed “The role of the contemporary Queen Mothers” which falls on February 6.

The celebration will spring from February 6 and climax with a Grand Awukudae Durbar under the distinguished patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, on February 16, 2022.
