Minority promises to go against indictment of Assin North MP

James Gyakye Quayson

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has served notice to oppose moves to indict the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, Mr James Gyakye Quayson, depicting the suit as politically inspired.

The Minority said any endeavor by government to indict the MP was an attack against the suit forthcoming under the watchful eye of the Court of Appeal.

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu said the issue of whether or not, per Article 94(2)(a) of the 1992 Constitution, Mr Quayson was able to remain as a MP is an issue of regulation forthcoming under the steady gaze of the Appeals Court as well as the Supreme Court in different suits.

At a public interview at Parliament House on Thursday, Mr Iddrisu said those activities were endeavors by government to scare the minority MPs in the mission to pass the E-demand, by attempting to decrease their number through the suit.

He said the most recent activity, embraced by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame, came at an at once and application for Stay of Execution had been recorded against the Cape Coast High Court’s invalidation of the 2020 Assin North Parliamentary Elections, as yet forthcoming under the steady gaze of the Court of Appeal.

He said data accessible to the Minority showed that the said charges verged on a claim that Mr Quayson carried out a wrongdoing by marking a revelation to the Electoral Commission such that he was able to represent a political decision as a MP.

In light of the current situation, the legal and sensible thing for the Ghana Police Service, the decision NPP government… to do is to keep the choice of the Court of Appeal on these cycles, he added.
