German Cooperation launches project to create employment in hospitality sector

Accra, Feb. 03, GNA – The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development has launched a project with Melter Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) to provide specialised academic and practical training to create immediate employment in the hospitality sector.

The project, “Invest For Jobs”, also dubbed, “The Special Initiative on Training and Job Creation”, is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
Anne-Marie Castel-Langefeld, Head, Business and Invest Component, Special Initiative on Training and Job Creation, said tourism and the hospitality sector was a major driver of the Ghanaian economy hence the need for effective training and job creation opportunities.
She said the project was targeting about 27 per cent of young people who were out of school between the ages of 15 and 24.
Madam Marie Castel said the project would use traditional classroom, apprenticeship, and practical methodologies to prepare the youth for the job market.
The training will involve in-hotel accommodation for trainees and hands-on lessons from experienced hoteliers and consultants.
Courses in food and beverage services, bar tending, and strategic managers training would also be provided.
Mr Ashwin Ravichandran, Portfolio Adviser at MEST, said the foundation partnered GIZ to help in training and mentoring young Africans to develop skills in software entrepreneurship.
He added that the Meltwater Foundation’s long-term goal was to create wealth and increased jobs in Africa.
