Mosquito coil repels insect and pest. Many people in Ghana use mosquito coils as a defensive weapon against insects, it isn’t though as effective as the spray but it is also capable of repelling insects.
Research as well as scientist shows that burning one mosquito probably because it is used at night since that’s the time insects invade, inhaling it’s smoke is as harmful as smoking hundred cigarettes.
It is toxic because it contains lead and magnesium as cigarettes but the level of that of the mosquito coil is by far higher than the cigarette. This led to the introduction of smokeless coils which was first made in China.
Studies shows that the said smokeless coil contains pyrethrins which is harmful to the lungs. Mosquito coils also produces carbon monoxide which damages the lungs and causes cancer.
Try as much as possible to use insecticide spray. Don’t stay in the room after spraying as it is poisonous (it can cause suffocation), wait for about 2-3 hours before returning back into the room. Do that twice a week and try as much as possible to avoid using mosquito coils.
