The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, is calling for the treatment of any brawling Member of Parliament (MP) just like any other criminal.
Any MP caught throwing punches on the floor of the house must not get away with that, they must be made to face the law and that is it.
“I will insist, if this thing happens again, that all the people involved must face the full rigors of the law.
They must be treated as any criminal anywhere. If we continue in this lane, we will not have the grounds to go to the Ghanaian people and ask them to vote for us again.
If anybody in the Majority gets that dirty, they should face the full rigors of the law.
We expect the minority to be civil. We are not expecting them to sing our praises to agree with everything we put across, but let us have some decorum, let us have some civility.”
This comes as parliament resumes sitting and high on the agenda is the electronic transaction tax (e-levy) and given the overheated rhetoric, it remains to be seen how things are going to pan out.
The minority has threatened to shoot down the tax. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader, however, finds the posturing of the minority baffling.
“The difficulty for me is, when people are kicking against the e-levy, when they know that in the adoption of the motion to approve the budget which contains the e-levy as a policy, we approved of that, so it means that the first step has already been taken.
The receivables of the e-levy have been factored into the various estimates approved for all the sectors.
That is the second thing we did. Thirdly, we encapsulated everything into the appropriations bill and passed it unanimously. You have approved of the e-levy.
