The hunt for a new Black Stars coach continues unabated. Ghana needs to get either an interim or permanent head coach ahead of a crucial World Cup play off against neighbors Nigeria. Many names have been thrown out in relation to who succeeds Milovan Rajevac. Interestingly, the Ghana Football Association appears to have locked horns with the Government of Ghana over who takes over the Senior National team on a permanent or interim basis.Â
The search for new head coach looks like being narrowed down to Chris Hughton and Otto Addo.Â
Reliable sources have noted that, Ghana Football Association officials are keen on naming Otto Addo as the next in command, after parting ways with Milovan Rajevac. Already some officials have flown out of Ghana to meet Otto Addo for deliberations as the favorite for the job. Assurances will be given to the assistant coach of Dortmund in relation to the National team job. Otto Addo will then be allowed to consider and ponder over proposals presented by the football governing body. Executive Council member Dr. Tony Aubyn looks ahead to the appointment of Otto Addo as the new Black Stars coach. His statement highlights what the Ghana Football Association plans are for the new direction.Â
Government of Ghana – on the other hand – considers Chris Hughton as the ideal candidate to steer affairs of the Senior National team. Reports have explained roles being played by some influential figures in power to get him appointed as soon as possible. The former Nottingham Forest manager has reportedly held talks with some players who do not want to play for the Black Stars of Ghana. Chris Hughton of Ghanaian heritage through his father, is reportedly in a comfortable lead to be named as the new head coach for Black Stars of Ghana because of government’s backing. Majority leader in Parliament, Kyei Mensah Bonsu, endorses Chris Hughton as the best person for the vacant position.Â
Meanwhile, whoever gets the opportunity to lead Black Stars on the dugout, will be mandated to beat Nigeria to the ticket for the global competition. Ghanaians look forward to the team part taking in the World Cup as a way of making amends for the dreadful performance in Cameroon. With that coming in as nonnegotiable, it is yet to be known what the situation could be should any of the above mentioned names fail to pull off the demanding target.
