You Are Just Robbing People By Using Your Authority – IMANI Vice President

The Vice President with IMANI Centre for Policy Education (IMANI Africa), Selorm Branttie, has asserted that if the government don’t tax only on value added tax, then the government is using it’s authority to rob people.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, 31st January 2022, he wrote;

“You tax only on value added. Otherwise, you are just robbing people by using your authority. Your economy won’t grow. You will have more poor people who can’t save, and those who can’t invest, and eventually you will have to borrow more to feed them because you won’t even let them earn enough to tax them again.”

The comments of Selorm Branttie comes as a background to the recently most talked about E-Levy which initially seeks to introduce 1.75% tax on all mobile money and electronic transactions. Although it has been reduced to 1.70% after further consultation by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta but Parliament of Ghana is yet to approve or reject it.

The IMANI Vice president and director at mPedigree Network, Selorm Branttie has been advocating against E-Levy in most of his post. He joins in the list of other prominent Ghanaians who don’t support the E-Levy.
