The member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency, Honourable Alexander Afenyo-Markin has made some revelations today that may seem surprising to many.
In N interview on GTV this morning, the member of Parliament made it clear that there is nothing like Ex-gratia in Parliament.
He made it clear that the constitution of Ghana didn’t mention anything like Ex-gratia. He however added that what they receive is something which is not meant for only parliamentarians but also the judiciary service.
He added that at the end of every four years, a committee is being set up to consider the Article 71 for services rendered, but there is nothing like Ex-gratia.
“There is nothing like Ex-gratia. You see there is an article 71 provision of public servants. It is not only the MPs, the judiciary is part of that article 71. So if someone is saying someone is paid Ex-gratia, there is nothing like Ex-gratia in Parliament” he said.
This comes after a viewer of the television station sent in a message suggesting that no existing MP should be given an ex-gratia at the end of every four years but it must be given to MPs who exit Parliament.
The MP replied this comment by saying that there is nothing like ex gratia.
