A popular member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) finally reveals what the ruling New Patriotic Party should do so that the opposition National Democratic Congress will accept the controversial Electronic Levy Bill.
On Friday, the Minority in Parliament rejected a reduction of the rate for the E-levy from 1.75 percent to 1.50 percent.
Meanwhile, a member of the NDC and a private legal practitioner, Nii Kpakpo Samoa has disclosed that the only way for the Minority to accept the E-levy and ensure it is passed, is when the government invites Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to intervene.
While Speaking on Asaase Radio on Saturday morning, Lawyer Samoa mentioned that, without Asantehene’s intervention, the E-levy will not be passed.
He reiterated that he doesn’t see anyone in Ghana currently who can be a good arbitrator do the two political parties when it comes to negotiations other than Otumfuo himself.
“There is no point of negotiation as between the NPP and NDC when it comes to this particular issue, so if the NPP government desperately wants this particular bill to be passed, then they have to elevate the negotiation and the arbitrator has to be respected by both sides.”
“And I don’t see another person within the scheme of our political temperature and the things that have to be done, the venerable Otumfuo has sat in high-level negotiations between President Akufo-Addo and Mahama in respect of certain matters.”
“So it is not beyond doubt, if I look at the landscape there is no other person who can break the deadlock between Nana Addo and Mahama other than Otumfuo and I suspect that at some point if this E-Levy will be passed.” Mr. Samoa said on Saturday morning on Asaase Radio.
