Dormaahene, Nana Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II has responded to the claims and allegations that he sponsor freedom fighters who insults adults. He has also made it clear that he will never support galamsey.
In an interview with Masem TV shared by Ghanaian Citizen TV on 31st January 2022 he said;
“For sometime now there has been this raging issue about Galamsey issue and destruction of our heritage”. I don’t subscribe to anyone casting Insults on chiefs and authorities because it’s against our culture. Yet sometimes those who criticize chiefs and leaders are right and I will not blame them but I don’t support the insults.
According to him because chiefs are custodians of the land that is why there is a general assumption that the chiefs are aware of galamsey and are even involved in it. Nana Agyeman Badu said that he has never ever involved himself in galamsey.
Dormaahene has made an appeal calling on all the chiefs and even the Presidency to see to it that they are involve in the fight against galamsey because he believes that it is destroying lands and rivers.
He also said that he is aware that Dormaa has vast mineral deposits of Gold in it’s lands but won’t allow anyone to mine it unless he see that Ghana will get enough revenue from it.
“I know that by law the mineral resources in the land belongs to the government but Dormaa land is mine and I will not accept the present 5% to 7% we get from the mining firms. Unless we get huge revenue to benefit Ghana and it’s poor people.” Dormaahene said.
