The member of Parliament for the Anyaa Sowutuom constituency, Honorable Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, clashed with the National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress during the discussion of the pros and cons of the e-levy. Sammy Gyamfi was of the view that the government will remain one of the insensitive and callous governments if the e-levy is accepted. This is because the government will indirectly tax the salaries and savings of the working population. Dr. Adomako Kissi explained otherwise that salaries paid electronically will not be taxed.
This assertion from the Honorable Member triggered a bold question from Sammy Gyamfi.
“If I am paid GHc 5000 cedis a month into my bank account or my mobile money wallet and I withdraw that money. And later decide to deposit the money into my mobile money account. This will no longer be regarded as my salary again. Will I still pay the tax since that same money is the salary? Tell me. I still do not understand why you will defend this”
