‘I did not steal the car’ – Alleged Car Hijacker in trouble over a Toyota Corolla

Nimo Michael, 38, has found himself in trouble after hijacking a car this morning. Nimo scheduled for court tomorrow morning was caught this morning by residents of Nkaseim when he allegedly tried hijacking a Toyota corolla.

The ash-coloured Toyota sedan belonging to Mavis Akoa, was listed for sale when Nimo called Mavis on Friday for a test drive. The car, according to Mavis, was parked in Amokokrom; a suburb of Nkasiem when Nimo showed interest in the car on Friday.

Nimo with his plans to hijack the car asked Mavis for a test drive this morning before accompanying Mavis to Amokokrom for the car. Nimo tried hijacking the car from Mavis on their way back from Amokokrom when he kept complaining of a sound coming from the back of the car.

I can hear the sound, it must be coming from the back, stop and let me check, Nimo said before Mavis got out of the car to check. Nimo rushed to the driver seat of the car and speed out of Nimokrom heading toward Nkasiem when Mavis called her brother at Nkasiem about the hijack.

Mavis’ brother; Sylvester Yeboah and some residents at Nkasiem blocked the road at Nkasiem cemetery and by so doing, they were able to arrest Nimo Michael before he could escape out of Nkaseim this morning. Nimo has been handed to the Nkasiem police and is scheduled for a court appearance tomorrow morning.

Nimo is charged with robbery and will be facing the Goaso Circuit Court tomorrow morning despite his resistance. Nimo has denied stealing the car and has blamed Mavis for setting him up.

I did not steal the car. It was a setup from the owner, Mavis. She told me to test the vehicle and see if it was my liking before making payment. She said she was busy taking a test drive with me, and I could take the drive alone from Amokokrom to Nkaseim and returned back. It was all part of the test drive condition she set for me to test the strength of the vehicle.

I did not try to steal it, Nimo said in his defence at the Nkaseim police station this morning. Nimo had denied stealing the car despite being caught in the act. Mavis’ brother, Sylvester, confirmed that Nimo had tried to reverse the car at the Nkaseim cemetery when he saw the roadblock, but Nimo had argued that he only tried reversing the car because he thought they were thieves trying to steal the car from him.

They had blocked the road. They are not police officers, so I had to be conscious of myself. I only tried reversing the vehicle because their actions were more of armed robbers to me, Nimo said to the police after he was arrested this morning.
