Gov’t Still Owes Public Sector Workers in Arrears after January Salaries

The Government of Ghana has paid salaries of public sector workers in Ghana and several people have detected some unfavorable developments they have begun commenting on.

Previously, the Controller and Accountant General has assured public sector workers they would be paid beginning 21st January 2022, workers were paid rather on the 26th which sparked doubts in the communique issued by the department.

Public sector workers have been paid only 3% of their salary increment contrary to 7% as promised by the minister for Labor relations.

4% was added to salaries of public sector workers and as a result arrears were owed public sector workers, these arrears were paid till government failed to pay arrears for February and January 2021, it also failed to pay December arrears for the year totaling 12% and has also failed to to pau 4% of the 7% increment making it 16% in arrears.

This means that if one is earning Ghc1000 as Net Salary government currently owes them Ghc160.

Some People have been paid 3% without arrears whilst others have received the full 7%, some have also not received their arrears of 2021 summing up to 8%.
