AmaZulu boss steps up his political ambitions as he engages Jacob Zuma and Zweli Mkhize

Over the years many sports personalities have transitioned from sport to politics.

Icons such as George Weah, the first African footballer win the World Player Of The Year Award, stood their ground in politics. Weah went on to become the president of Liberia.

AmaZulu owner Sandile Zungu raffled feathers earlier this week when he stated that he is entering politics on an ANC ticket.

Zungu is determined to be the ANC KZN Chairman. If he wins the race, that position will give him so much power and ground on the political divide.

Zungu is so serious about his ambitions that he has consulted political heavyweights.

“I’m engaged in quite an extensive consultation process. I’m speaking to my family, business leaders and my church leadership at the Salvation Army to seek their counsel. I’m also consulting other ANC leaders who have led the province,” Zungu said.

Among the leaders that the 55-yearold Zungu is consulting are former president Jacob Zuma, former health minister Zweli Mkhize, former Kwazulu-natal premier now South African ambassador to India Sibusiso Ndebele, former provincial MEC for Economic Development and Tourism Mike Mabuyakhulu, and former Kwazulu-natal premier and now chairperson of the provincial planning commission Willies Mchunu.

With the way he has turned around the fortunes of AmaZulu, perhaps Zungu has a chanceof proving himself as a mainstream politician.
