Hon. Kennedy Nyarko Osei, the member of Parliament for Akim Swedru Constituency, in Eastern Region believes that the circulating picture showing calculations of the amount of money to be deducted after E-Levy is introduced is false and misleading.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, January 28th 2022 he wrote;
“I have just sighted this purported calculations by someone being shared around. First of all the entire calculations are not only false but also misleading. I will entreat those who have widely shared it to pull it down from their walls.
Now let me do a little bit of education here.
For example is person wants to send a momo of 150.00 to someone it’s only on the 50.00 that the 1.75% will be applied. First 100.00 of every transaction you do is exempted. For example if you decide to send a 1000 to a friend or a family member you will only pay the 1.75% on 900.00.For the avoidance of doubt let’s say I am sending 200.00 to my son or Daughter in school I will only pay GHc1.75p as e-levy fees because you are exempted for the first 100.00
Now MTN has decided to reduced it charges to 0.75% so whilst MTN will be applying the 0.75% on the 200.00 you are sending for the day Government will rather be applying the e-levy on only 100.00 and not on the entire 200.00
It’s therefore misleading for anybody to believe what people are sharing because it’s totally false and inaccurate.” He concluded.
