Will the Ashanti Region Ever be Split Into Other Regions?

Most of Ghana’s political regions in the country have witnessed many changes over the past years as ways and means for bringing development to the people and to also ease the burden from the people especially, due to the geographical location and distance one has to travel to the capital towns for transaction or any vital purposes.

The erstwhile Brong Ahafo have been split to become independent Regions and now we have the Techiman East Region, Ahafo Region, Bono Region, Western North and Western Region, Savannah Region, Northeast Region, Northern Region, Oti and Volta Regions

The other regions which hadn’t experience division into forming other regions are the Eastern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, the Greater Accra Region, Central Region and the Ashanti Region.

The Ashanti Region is the most populous Region in Ghana ruled by the great Ashanti King, His Royal Majesty Otumfour Osei Tutu II. The Ashanti Kingdom is also one of the greatest Kingdoms in the world by far

The Region has so many constituencies than any other regions coupled with Universities such as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, AAMUSTED as well as other Colleges of Education, Nurses Training Colleges, best SHS in the country and arguably the most populated basic schools in Ghana.

The Ashanti Region displays rich culture that make Ghana proud in the global showpiece as well as the biggest market in West Africa which is found in the Central Market and Business District of Kumasi the capital town.

As to whether the Ashanti Region be split or carved out to form two different regions remain the question Ghanaians have been waiting to hear.

The reality on the ground is that the Ashanti Region may never be split as others contemplate because of its chieftaincy. The Royal Majesty the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu may not welcome this idea where part of his kingdom would be made to have new name.

Aside that, all the other towns such as Ejisu, Juaben, Mampong, Bekwai, Kumawu, Tepa, Bosomtwe etc have great allegiance to Kumasi and as such wouldn’t permit the division of any part of the region to form newly created region.
