Guinea Head Of State Blasts Team …After AFCON Exit

Gambia’s Ablie Jallow (front) is challenged by Mauritania’s Almike Moussa N’Diaye during their match between Mauritania and Gambia.

Guinea interim Head of State, Colonel Mamadi Dumbuya, has descended heavily on the team for exiting the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Guinea bowed 0-1 to tournament debutants The Gambia at the last 16 stage of the competition on Monday.

The military leader bared his teeth after the game saying, “You have not showed pride or hunger to win, a disgraceful performance has let down 13 million Guineans.

“Those that play abroad should connect to their clubs, your faces are not needed in Guinea at this moment.”

He added, “I am very much disappointed because you lost to a team that’s not superior to you.”

Ahead of the tournament, the president cautioned the team to return home with the ultimate trophy or refund the cash the state has invested in the team.

“The cup or you reimburse the money that’s been invested in you,” the Guinean President told the players, as quoted by African Insider.
