The former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has remind the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia that indeed talk is cheap and remind him of what he said about taxes when NPP was in opposition.
In a post shared on his official Facebook Page on Wednesday January 26th 2022, he shared a video of Dr. Bawumia granting an interview when NPP was in opposition. John Mahama captioned the video as “Hmmm! Talk is indeed, cheap”.
In the Shared video by former President John Mahama, Dr. Bawumia was on Joy FM talking about the imposition of taxes by Mahama’s government. Bawumia said, it was a sign that the NDC administration has mismanaged the economy and hence desperate to impose taxes on anything taxable.
Bawumia in that interview said that, the taxes are hurting the economy, and therefore Ghana was not going to experience growth in the economy and when that happens Ghana will not get the revenue needed. “When you don’t get the revenue, you will go back to increasing taxes.”
John Mahama’s post is also a background to the ongoing debating about the introduction of taxes on mobile money transactions called E-Levy. The Majority group in parliament strongly support the E-Levy whilst the Minority group is against it.
