It is unfortunate that those who have been trained and mandated to protect law and order are rather being killed. The two ears have seen several police officers being killed in unexplained circumstances. Whilst some of them die in the line of duty, others give up the ghost after suffering a short illness. Bad relationships have also sent others to their early graves.
After the IGP George Akuffo Dampare took over as the head of the police administration, one of the challenges he swore to deal with was the killings of police officers by gunmen. As the police administration is strategizing to end the menace, another police Constable has been killed. Massive tears are currently flowing at the Police Headquarters and the Bawku Divisional command after the sad news of the shooting of Constable Regina Angenu (N0. 11189) was announced.
She had visited another officer, Constable Erasmus Enkson who is also with the Bawku MTTD. As they were leaving to the barracks, unknown gunmen started firing gunshots at them for reasons best known to them. Unfortunately for constable Regina Angenu, the bullet affected her groin and that led to her untimely death. Efforts to save her situation by medical doctors at the Presbyterian mission hospital did not yield any positive results.
The assailants who attacked this young police constable have currently not been found nor have they been arrested. It is unfortunate that such a young police officer will meet her untimely death by committing no crime. She did no wrong to deserve this kind of death. Her family will have to spend the next years mourning her passing because she obviously was one of the key pillars holding the young ones. His working colleagues would also live the rest of the days mourning and searching for her killers.
The IGP George Akuffo Dampare must institute stringent measures to protect the ordinary police officer. Protective gears should be provided in abundance for them to survive such unforeseen circumstances. The police administration must also marshal all resources available to ensure the assailants are arrested as soon as possible. For now, the police command in the area have mounted serious search chasing her killers at all costs.
As we speak, the killers of Constable Emmanuel Osei, a young officer who died in the line of duty have not been found. The same must not happen to this lady constable. Her killers must be found to face the laws of the country to serve as a deterrent to others. The killers cannot go unpunished. the search must be intensified.
