It appears matters are currently getting worse for some victims in the deadly Apiatse gas explosion that has since claimed about seventeen lives. Soon after the explosion, the ambulance service received a distress call from Takoradi to deploy more vehicles to the scene. They quickly organized about nine ambulances and arrived at the scene on time.
The lifeless bodies of innocent persons lying on the floor were unbearable. The ambulance service was divided because the dead must be conveyed to the mortuary whilst the injured needed urgent medical care. Western Region head of training for the Ambulance Service, Prosper Maar indicates that they had to save the injured and all their nine ambulances were put to use.

For now, over of fifty-seven persons with serious degrees of injuries have been rushed to the Tarkwa Government Hospital, Bogoso health center, and the Effinakwanta Regional Hospital. Some of these victims have sustained deep cuts in their heads and other parts of their bodies. Four of the victims are currently in serious condition. According to Prosper Maar, their conditions have become critical, and have to be rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for medical attention. The emergency wards of most of the health centers in the area are full of injured persons.
The administrator for the Tarkwa government hospital, Mukabbir Abass also confirmed that about forty victims were brought to their hospital. He adds that most of them are currently in critical conditions. He adds that his hospital has since not recorded any deaths but about six of the victims have been rushed to the theater for emergency care. The situation is not different from the Bogoso health center where many injured persons have been rushed there.
In the meantime, the MCE for the area, Isaac Dasmani has confirmed that seventeen persons have died so far and relief items are being arranged to cater for the affected persons. He also indicates that the assembly is liaising with other organizations to get a permanent accommodation for the affected persons with others being transported to Bogoso to live in temporal structures. Again, the rescue team is still searching for more persons who might still be trapped in the collapsed buildings.
Investigations have been initiated t unravel the real cause of the disaster. Many are calling for stiffer punishment for the responsible for the transportation of the explosives. They believe basic safety protocols were not adhered to and must be punished accordingly if found culpable.
