In a recent interview, former Ghanaian international Asamoah Gyan declared that he has not retired from football and that he still has a great deal to offer on the pitch.

Gyan has not played for the Black Stars since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, where he represented his country.

His age of 36 puts him out of a job as well, having parted ways with Ghana Premier League team Legon Cities during the previous season.

While appearing as an analyst on SuperSport TV, Gyan stated that he has not retired, but that he must reduce weight before he can resume active participation in football.

“I haven’t resigned from my position yet. I must reduce weight and be physically active before doing so, and he must train on a consistent basis week in and week out.

My physical appearance is still in good shape, and I still have a lot to offer in terms of intellectual and social contributions. Everything is in order in terms of intelligence, and everything is in order in terms of physical readiness, but I do not believe I am physically ready at this moment. “I need to work on improving my physical fitness.”

Asamoah Gyan is Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, having netted 51 times in a professional international career that extended more than a decade and a half.

More importantly, Gyan is currently employed by SuperSport as a football analyst for the ongoing African Football Confederation (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon.
