A former ambassador to US, Dr. Tony Aidoo has slammed the NPP for monetising it’ s politics. According to him, elections are about money for the party. Explaining further, the marveric communicator who has been silent for over ten years said, money was the only hurdle the six candidates will have to overcome. After which the winner will face the Ghanaian electorates. That will be when the party will have a different hurdle to overcome and that is the achievement of Nana Akufo Addo from 2017 to 2024. He said he was sure the NPP delegates are by now salivating because they know their harvest is coming.
Tony Aidoo made these comments in a viral video sighted by CitizenOne.
“So far names which have come out include Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Alan Kyerematen, trade and industry minister, Agric minister Afriyie Akoto, Joe Gartey and Addai Mununkum. For all these candidates, the number one hurdle that they will have to overcome is money. Because we know that for NPP, elections are about money. If one candidate is able to spend GHC 5000 on every candidate for 100 people in parliametary primaries, then you can imagine what will happen in presidential primaries. So I know by now, the delegates are salivating like dogs because they know their harvest is coming”, Dr. Tony Aidoo stated.
He added that, unfortunately for the NPP, Nana Addo has not left a good legacy the party can ride on in 2024. He said the party will have to pump in more money if they should get 30% of total votes in 2024.
The ruling NPP is worming up to its national delegates congress where it will elect it’ s flagbearer into 2024 elections. Even though the party will most likely do this in late 2023, tension is already rising as far as the flagbearership race is concerned. Ironically the same tension is not found in the NDC which will elect it’ s flagbearer this year.
Individuals who have publicly made their intensions to hold the flag of the party into 2024 include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, trade and industry minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, food and agriculture minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former attorney general Joe Ghartey, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and former energy minister Boakye Agyako.
