The Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku has said that his players who were also called up for the black stars are also Ghanaians and so they deserve to be called up.
The GFA President was speaking on the aftermath of Ghana Black Stars’ poor performance at the 2021 African Cup Of Nations tournament played in 2022 January. He was speaking in an interview with Kessben FM and Kessben TV.
When asked about why the Black Stars squad had players who play for his team Dreams FC and yet couldn’t play even one game since joining the Stars, Kurt Okraku then said that even if it’s his players who are called up for Black Stars, they are also Ghanaians and footballers and so they deserve a call up to the National Team since the National Team is for all Ghanaian Footballers.
“So be it if my players are invited to the black stars, they are also Ghanaians and footballers.” Mr. Kurt Okraku told Kessben FM and TV.
The GFA President has been under constant criticism for always his Dreams FC player, Philemon Baffour into the Black Stars squad but yet he doesn’t get to play and is always on the bench.
After the Stars abysmal performance at the 2021 AFCON, this criticism became even stronger when reports from Cameroon said in the game against Gabon, Ghana’s right back, Andy Yiadom had an injury and wanted to be substituted but he wasn’t because Philemon was going to replace him but because Philemon is not good enough, the technical bench preferred Andy to play in the pain.
Moreover, Mr. Kurt Okraku while speaking with Kessben FM/TV, also said the Black Stars squad included some injured players because CAF gave every team the chance to assemble 28 players for the tournament and so they made room for some injured players who had the potential to be fit for the tournament if the team had progressed.
” We named some injured players like Wakaso and Kudus as part of the squad because they had the potential to be fit for the tournament if the team progressed much further.” Kurt Okraku told Kessben FM/TV.
