A few days have passed since a young boy, David Anaria, aged 15, met his untimely death at a farming community in the Asante Akyem North Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The young boy is said to have been butchered by a Fulani herdsman at a stream in the community in the presence of two other young boys.
The death of the young boy has since brought tension in the community with residents staying wild awake to ensure the killers are brought to book. For now, there is a seeming tension in the community since armed police personnel has been providing security to avoid a violent reprisal attack. But even before that, about three Fulani herdsmen suspected to have a hand in the killing have all been arrested.
The sad aspect is that they have sustained various degrees of injuries after members of the community nearly lynched them. Their current situation is not because they have been admitted to the hospital for some days now. Whilst on the hospital bed, police handcuffs have been tied around their wrists.
They are being prevented from any attempt to run away as well as being protected from attacks that might arise from the community. Even as they are on the hospital bed in handcuffs, some angry residents are still finding ways and means to fight back the sad death of the young innocent boy. Nurses could be seen busily attending to the three herdsmen to find the best treatment for them. The police are on standby to ensure that they take them to the cell and subsequently parade them before the law court.
Back in the village of Nyiaeso, the father of the deceased young boy, Mr. Anaria cannot hold on to his tears. He has spent his last money in ensuring his son attains the best of education. He never anticipated that such a sad day will befall him and the rest of his family. The young boy was supposed to write his final examination next year but for reasons best known to the Fulani herdsmen, they decided to butcher him painfully.
He believes that the only revenge that will make the soul of his son rest well is for justice to prevail. He wants the laws of the country to deal with the Fulani Headmen who are currently receiving treatment at the hospital and any other person involved.
The activities of Fulani herdsmen taking innocent lives is an old age crime in the country. Many of them have over the years been arrested for similar crimes but that has not deterred the rest from the act. Security agencies in the country must strategize and put in place measures that will end these deadly crimes once and for all.
