The Bank of Ghana in a statement issued today Wednesday, 19th January 2022, urged all financial institutions in Ghana to take steps to update customer records with Ghana Card only.
As a result, the Ghana Card will be the only recognized identification card in banks and other regulated financial institutions from July 1, 2022.
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has completed building its verification platform, to enable all financial institutions to accept the Ghana Card for transactions. Already Calbank, Stanbic, and UBA have started accepting the Ghana Card as a form of verification for banking transactions.
Many banks have not been accepting the Ghana Card as a form of verification for transactions with the explanation that they were not yet on the board of the verification platform.
This is to satisfy section 30 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044) and Regulation 12 of the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1987).
It is necessary for Ghanaians to take note and get access to the Ghana card.
