The Motor Transport And Traffic Directorate is a body under the Ghana Police Service that is responsible for road safety in the country. MTTD’s normally conduct checks on vehicles such as driver’s license, insurance, road worthy and the like. There has been a recent release by the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare to suspend all motor checks in the country.
This means that no officer will have to stop vehicles for any reason to conduct any check. Two major reasons why this decision was taken by the IGP is to firstly, help the team concentrate more on traffic management in the country in reducing unnecessary traffics on our roads.
Secondly, this is to help the team to attend to all road crash cases in the country. In Ghana, some of the major causes of road crashes are as a result of overspeeding, driving drunk and other careless acts. This time round, Dr Dampare and his team will make sure such incidents are minimal to help control crashes on the roads.
The due date for the suspension to be over is not known yet. Any Police Officer found checking motor vehicles will have to answer. This initiative began on Friday, the 14th of January 2022. Read more here:
