The minister for information has sent a very important message to beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCO).
NaBCO is an initiative of the ruling Government to train the youth in skills needed for the job market. The three year program started in 2018 with seven modules heal Ghana, educate Ghana, Digitise Ghana, Revenue Ghana, among others. Per the document guiding NaBCO, beneficiaries were paid a monthly allowances of GHC 700. 00 each throughout the three years. The Government claimed to had engaged more than 100, 000 youths in the last three years under NaBCO.
In August 2021, the Government announced an end to NaBCO program. This came as a disappointment to beneficiaries who had been promised of permanent jobs through the scheme. Beneficiaries also complained that they had not been paid before the program was ended. They accused the CEO and the Government of pedling falsehoods about their numbers as well as payment so far.
Even though the 2022 budget announced an extension of the program by one year, beneficiaries still claim their six months allowances are in areas.
During an interview with Emefa Apawu on Joynews, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah crushed the hopes of beneficiaries being paid their allowances anytime soon. He hinted that all hands were on deck to ensure the allowances are processed and paid. However, he could not tell exactly when the allownces will be paid.
Emefa Apawu asked him exactly when beneficiaries will get their money and the minister as follows,
” I do not know when the NABCO personnels will be paid” , Kojo Oppong Nkrumah emphatically revealed.
Many beneficiaries who commented on the statement expressed their disappointment in the NPP government and the minister.
On the same program, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that the government was on course of handling the impasse with striking unions. He said a high powered delegation had been empowered to meet the aggrived unions namely UTAG, CETAG, CRAs and PAs. He was hopeful all other unions will tone down and come to the negotiating table to resolve the impasse once and for all.
