The Bawku Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) is calling for the deployment of more soldiers and police officers to provide security protection for school children in Bawku amid the unending shootings in the town.
There is a curfew in place in Bawku, there is a ban on the wearing of smock in Bawku and male pillion riding has been outlawed in Bawku, yet the security situation in Bawku continues to remain volatile.
Amadu Hamza, the Municipal Chief Executive, says students in the tertiary and senior high schools would require security escorts and it is going to be difficult to provide security q and protection for pupils in all the basic schools if extra soldiers and police officers are not sent in. Speaking to an Accra-based radio station Amadu Hamza said:
“The Upper East Regional Minister and I are working day in and day out to ensure that we get security to escort students to go in there and to also to ensure their safety while they are in school.
There are some Kusasis who are in there. They are afraid when they come, their lives are going to be in danger.”
Twelve (12) persons arrested and airlifted to Accra for their involvement in the recent Bawku chieftaincy clashes, which led to the loss of lives and destruction of property have been granted bail in the sum of Ghs240,000 by an Accra High Court.
Each of the 12 accused persons was granted bail in the sum of Ghs20,000 with one surety. They would be making their next court appearance on February 12, 2022.
They have been slapped with charges of unlawful assembly with weapons and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.
The 12 accused persons are Issahaku Barkin, Samuel Abduo Rahman, Seidu Mohammed Saani, Richard Amevor, Nantogma Kwami and Iddrisu Shaibu, Namaw Osman Nabia, Inusah Belko, Abdulai Gboo, Abdulai Nangbon Dana, Naa Tampuri and Dr Samuel Burgri.
