‘She was behaving like a madwoman’ – Woman in trouble for stealing a 6-month-old baby at Tafo

Baby Akosuah, a six-month-old baby has been saved after she was nearly kidnapped this morning at Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi. The baby is doing fine and nothing serious has been detected on her except the normal baby symptoms. She is well, Dr Agenlina Dei-Mensa of Tafo Hospital said after the baby was taken to the hospital for medical screening.

Baby Akosuah, from the medical report released by her doctor, is very healthy after she was nearly kidnapped by an alleged mad woman at Old Santi Street in Tafo. The whistleblower, Mercy Yeboah, was going to fetch water when she saw a shakily looking mad woman looking left and right. 

With the baby hidden in her clothes, the alleged madwoman who hasn’t been identified yet, forced a baby pacifier into baby Akosuah’s mouth when she started crying. Baby Akosuah with the pacifier in her mouth, stopped crying and kept her calm as her kidnapper tried taking her away. 

Mercy Yeboah looking at the nature the woman was acting; indecently dressed, cautious of her surroundings, thought the woman was a thief and called her husband from the house. With a masculine voice, Stephen Yeboah, the husband of Mercy Yeboah shouted at the woman. Hey! What are you doing there, who are you? Stephen said in his masculine voice before the woman tried to flee. 

The woman was traced and stopped when Stephen alerted the residents on top of his voice again. ‘Thief! Thief!! Thief!!! Tafo Thief!!!’ Stephen said as residents came out from the rooms. Stephen together with the residents of Tafo Old Santi street was able to corner the woman after she was blocked from escaping through the Old Santi main tunnel. 

Baby Akosuah was rescued and handed to her parents (name withheld). The parents of baby Akosuah were weeding their backyard garden when the alleged madwoman sneaked into their room to take the baby away at six in the morning. The woman has been handed to the Tafo police as investigations are still ongoing. 

Mercy Yeboah, the whistleblower whose effort saved baby Akosuah this morning, narrated that, the woman’s actions were suspicious and that made her suspect her of burglary. I even thought she was about to steal something; money, when she kept looking around. 

She was behaving like a madwoman before and after entering the room and that drew my attention to her. She is not a madwoman but a baby thief, Mercy said to the police when the woman kept behaving like a madwoman.

The police are yet to confirm whether the woman is mad or not after she was taken to the Suntreso Regional Hospital for mental checks. The test from the hospital will determine the police next line of action, whether to prosecute her or hand her over to a mental facility, Officer Samuel Nyantakyi of Tafo Police hinted.
