Johnnie Hughes the presenter and host of Johnnie’s bite on TV3 has strongly questioned some requests the Ghana Ambulance Service will make when someone is demanding an ambulance. For him, he thinks those requests the ambulance service makes are not justifiable and an end should be put to those requests as soon as possible because it is killing innocent ones.
Johnnie Hughes was speaking after a man lost his wife after an ambulance failed to pick the woman to Korle Bu because they didn’t have money to buy fuel to fill the ambulance. According to the man who lost his wife, he mentioned that the ambulance driver asked him to pay for the fuel and also find a bed for the wife before the ambulance can move. Because he couldn’t provide those, they failed to move to render the man lose his wife.
Johnnie Hughes talked bitterly today saying it is wrong for Ghana Ambulance Service to ask for fuel and bed because they transfer an emergency. He stated that those requests are killing a lot of innocent people. Adding that most of the people who die in our hospitals are mainly because of negligence from our system.
“This is how we succeeded in killing somebody’s wife. How disgraceful. Those politicians and big men, when you travel outside and call an ambulance, do they ask you to bring fuel before the ambulance moves? Do they even ask you to provide a bed before they move the ambulance? What kind of disgraceful attitude is that? There is a man I spoke to many years ago, he lost his father because he couldn’t acquire an ambulance to carry the father after roaming 7 hospitals.”
“How can you call an ambulance during an emergency and they will ask you to provide a bed as well as buy fuel. And that’s how we succeed in killing people. Most of the people who die, do not die because their illness killed them but because our negligence killed them.” Johnnie Hughes said on Johnnie’s Bite today.
He concluded by saying that the reason why our big men in the country will always seek medical attention outside the country is that they know our health system is bad and uncalled for. He asked that those requests will come to an end.
“That is why our big men will always travel outside to seek medical care because they know that our health system is bad. The system is bad. Even though there are some very good medical people but because of the system, we cannot see how good they are. We should put an end to all these demands from the ambulance service when there is an emergency. It is so disheartening.” Johnnie Hughes added
