After a week of quality and entertaining football of the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, here is the list of every man of the match award honors.
Cameroon – Burkina Faso
Host Nation came from behind and beat Burkina Faso by 2-1 in the AFCON opener at the Stade d’Olembé in Yaoundé. Burkina Faso star – Gustavo Sangaré went ahead to give the Stallions the lead but the prowess on the part of the host Nation attack turns the table around as they scored two goals in the same half all coming from penalties. Ethiopia – Cape Verde
The Blue Sharks of Cape Verde had a pretty tough clash against Ethiopia as they won their first AFCON match in nine years. A goal from the Al-Faisaly frontman in the 46th minute made a huge difference in the scoreline as they carried all three points. However, one of the stars whose performance caught the eye of match officials and spectaculars was Oostende midfielder – Kenny Rocha Santos.
Senegal – Zimbabwe
Despite missing nine players to coronavirus, the Lions of Teranga still were strong to silence the Warriors of Zimbabwe by a goal to nil in the 97th minute. Liverpool star showed his worth as he makes runs, created chances, and worked on the Warriors defense as he sway away – the man of the match honor after 90 minutes at the Kouekong Stadium, Bafoussam.
Morocco – Ghana
Four-time AFCON Champions extended their 35th unbeaten run in the Stade Ahmadou Abidjo Stadium when they faced Black Stars of Ghana in Group C. Both teams showed real enthusiasm for a win but the Atlas was more convincing as they stunt Ghana in the 83rd 1minutes. Former Southampton man – Sofiane Boufal won the man of the match honor due to his classic finish.
Guinea – Malawi
The National Elephants of Guinea started their AFCON campaign on a perfect start after beating Malawi with a goal to nil at the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam. The National Elephants outplayed the Flames of Malawi, thanks to a goal from Toulouse player – Issiaga Sylla and solid performance from the Liverpool Midfielder – Naby Keita – it was convincing enough for the man of the match honor.
Comoros – Gabon
An early strike from the Al-Arabi frontman – Aaron Boupenza in the 16th minute gave the Brazilians something to hold for which they did throughout the entire game in a narrow win against the Les Coelacanths which they failed to respond. Aaron Boupenza’s performance was super-notch as he grasp the man of the match honor.
Algeria – Sierra Leone
Defending AFCON champions – Algeria was frustrated by Leone Stars as they settled at a draw at the Japoma Stadium in Douala in their first opener. The Greens dominated the entire 90+ minutes with multiple goal attempts which was, however, denied by the Leone Stars goalkeeper – Mohamed Kamara as he swept away the man of the match honor.
Nigeria – Egypt
A thunder strike from Leicester City man – Kelechi Iheanacho settled the difference between the two heavy-weight in a narrow win. It was a pretty thought clash as it went in favor of Kelechi and his team.
Sudan – Guinea Bissau
A late penalty miss from Monaco player – Pelé saw the African wild dogs settling in the draw against the Falcons of Jediane. Sudan goalie – Ali Abdallah Abu-Eshrein was all round in goal post as he won the man of the natch honor.
Tunisia – Mali
Referee Sikazwe brought chaos to this clash as he ended the match a minute to the 90-minute game. With the Malians, they were very much excited with the result, as Sarpsborg frontman – Ibrahima Konés’s penalty was enough for the three points. Also saves from the Malian goalkeeper saw him gripping the man of the match honor.
