Veteran Journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt has publicly declared his intention not to make any further comment or remarks on the brouhaha surrounding the disenfranchised people of the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe collectively described as SALL. He has ended his usual advocacy for the people to be represented in the 8th parliament.
According to the revered Journalist and General Secretary for the Socialist Movement of Ghana, he believes that the disenfranchisement of the constituents was a deliberate attempt by the independent Electoral Commission headed by Madam Jean Mensa. He blames the electioneering outfit for failing to give recognition to the people who have been secluded from the Ghanaian general public.
Mr. Kwesi Pratt made this disclosure in an interview today, January 12, 2022 on Good Morning Ghana show hosted by Annie when commenting on the petition from the Fix The Country Convenors to remove Jean Mensah. He expressed no hope in the petition as he recalled and counted several of such petitions that have been filed against the EC boss, Jean Mensah.
According to Mr. Kwesi Pratt, it is unfair for some section of Ghanaians [SALL] to have no representation in the chamber. He explains that the most worrying part of the whole brouhaha is the fact that, despite the absence of a representative for the SALL people in Parliament, any decision taken would affect them. He explains how unfair it is for a democratic state like Ghana to experience.
Speaking further, Mr. Kwesi Pratt believes that the SALL issue ought to have been solved by EC. However, no attempts were made raising the height of suspicion among the leaders of the Electoral Commission. He indicated that it would be the highest level of shame and hypocrisy for the government to talk about democracy and constitutional rule as long as the people of SALL fails to get a representation in Parliament.
He said, “The issue of SALL has lasted for a year and nothing has been done. I believe that was a decision taken by the EC. It is not a Court decision. We should be feeling ashamed of ourselves that in this dispensation we have decided not to allow the people to take part in decision. You cannot justify it and it’s most unfair. I am ashamed and it is the last time I am going to talk about SALL and Jean Mensah.”
