A special aide to former President John Dramani Mahama and a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress’s legal team, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe has said that President Akuffo Addo is bent on haunting journalists in the country. He indicated that, Akuffo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia’s administration has obtained a distinction in hounding media men and women in the country.
According to Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, the concept of media freedom has been relegated in the Akuffo-Addo government. He believes that no amount of effort taken by this government can cover up the mess they have created in the media landscape. He made this bold disclosure earlier today, January 12, 2022.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 NewDay show, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe Tamakloe completely disagreed with Honourable Pius Hadzide on the government’s track record in ensuring media freedom. He registered his resentment over how the government has failed in the past years to bring justice to certain crucial matters of interest to Ghanaians.
Speaking further, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe lamented how the government is attempting to extend a hand of influence to independent media houses. He believes that, the recent media enhancement programme is a calculated attempt to buy the independent institutions and cover up the mess they have created in the country.
According to the aide to the former President, he finds it worrying to see communicators of the NPP comparing the erstwhile Mahama administration to that of the current Akuffo-Addo government. He indicated boldly that Mahama has distinction as the best President the 4th Republic has ever had.
He said, “The suspicion of influence is heightened because of the people we are dealing with. Ghanaians are complaining because they know what this government has done. The Akuffo-Addo government is haunting journalists in the country and now wants to buy them.”
