Ghanaians have shared mixed reactions over the recent media capacity enhancement programme that was organised by the government to train young and leading journalists to improve on their mandate. Many have showered massive praises on government and have called for consistent training of our journalists and the promotion of media freedom.
However, it was a heated discussion on the TV3 NewDay show earlier today, January 11, 2022 as the Deputy National Youth Organizer, Edem Agbana waded into reactions concerning the capacity enhancement programme. According to him, government and the Ministry of information deserves no applause for organizing the programme.
According to Edem Agbana, the training programme is an attempt by the government to extend a hand of influence on media men and women and to look good in the sight of the Ghanaian people. He believes that, government has dual interests and that is to buy most of the Journalists who would cover up their mess in the coming years.
Edem Agbana shared with so much passion how such programmes organized by government could cost the country. He believes that media freedom cannot be promoted when government is the institution funding training programmes and providing resources for the training of Journalists.
Speaking further, the verbose Communicator made a very bold revelation on how Ghanaians would react if such programmes were being organized by the NDC government. He indicated that, Ghanaians would share different views just to paint the NDC government bad. He wondered how the government has taken steps to cover up their mess and crunch economy they have put Ghanaians in.
He said, “I think it is an attempt by government to manipulate the media coverage that ought to be independent. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and his Ministry deserves no applause for that. Imagine the Communications outfit decides to do same, what do you think would be the outcome. Ghana would be on fire. Government has an interest and wants to look good in the eyes of the electorates.”
