I am very sorry Aisha’ – 40-year-old woman breaks down in court after allegedly maltreating her maid

Aisha Fuseini, the 16-year-old girl at the centre of a court case, will have her soul trembling in happiness and a choice to make after the Agona District court sat on her case this morning. Aisha who died on 26 July 2021, will have to make a choice whether to forgive her madam after the madam begged her soul for forgiveness this morning.

Sitting at the high table, His Lordship Judge Isaac Apeatu had no knowledge his court will be turned into a mourning room when he ordered the court clerk to commence the day’s proceedings. Your honour, the case at your court this morning is that of Celestina Ampofowaa vs Samia Fuseini. All present this morning, the court clerk said before Samia Fuseini took the witness stand. 

Samia Fuseini, the sister to the decease, Aisha Fuseini, was requesting the court to grant her and her family the tune of GH¢100,000 worth of damages against the accused, Celestina Ampofowaa. Samia, being coached by her lawyer, knew what to say as she vehemently blamed Celestina for the death of Aisha Fuseini on child maltreatment accounts.

Aisha after her death in September 2021, was confirmed by an autopsy report to have died because of stress and tiredness. The Fuseini family was counselled by Dr Merlinda Agyei to take a lawyer and sue Celestina but the case was thrown away on 25 November 2021, after it was established that, Celestina wasn’t the cause of Aisha’s death. 

The Fusieni family did not allow the case to die and resurrected the case with new evidence on 2 December 2021. The case was then turned from murder to child maltreatment after the Fuseini family lost the murder case against Celestina.

Celestina was cleared of all wrongdoing in the death of Aisha Fuseini on 25 November 2021, but the family is back again to seek a fresh hearing on child maltreatment. Samia standing in her witness box, narrated that, the family was not in court for murder but child maltreatment.

Your honour, my sister died as a result of child maltreatment and we pray, this court will find the accused culpable of crime, Samia stated before taking her seat.

I am sorry Aisha! I am very sorry Aisha!!, Celestina Ampofowaa begged the spirits of Aisha as she took the witness stand to defend herself of all charges. For thirty minutes, Celestina kept murmuring in tears until the judge ordered her out of the courtroom. 

There seem to be so many emotions here today. Put yourself together and come back, Judge Isaac Apeatu said to the accused, Celestina Ampofowaa before adjourning the case to 14 January 2022.

Lawyers for Celestina Ampofowaa hinted that, though Celestina knew nothing about Aisha’s death but will be making a donation to the family to end the case. We are not saying she is guilty of this fresh child maltreatment accusations, but she is a mother and believes no child should die because of stress. Due to that, we will meet the family and settle the case before the next hearing, Lawyer Ankama Godfred stated after the case was adjourned..
