AFCON 2022: The Two Favorite Teams That Are Set To Snatch The Trophy From Algeria

The AFCON 2022 has just begun, and over the next month, 24 teams will go to battle, to decide who is the best on the African continent to get the trophy. 

Whiles to two tough and favorite teams…Senegal and Egypt are set to snatch the title; and the host nation Cameroon aiming at host and win, the defending champions and ‘The Desert Warriors’ of Algeria, will also be looking to defend their trophy and winning it for the third time.

Before the final show down, here are some few things to note, about the two favorites teams that are set to crush the defending champions Algeria, and meet at the final of the tournament.

So far, and ahead of the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022, ‘The Flames’of Senegal and ‘The Pharaohs’ of Egypt, have been marked as the two favorites, to meet at the final.

The Flames’of Senegal is in Group ‘B’, with teams like Guinea, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Senegal has 16 appearances at AFCON, but has never won tournament. This time, the team will be hoping to turn things around for the better.

The Flames are led by their former player Aliou Cissé, and have a squad oozing full of talent. Going through their squad is ‘a who’s who of talent’. They have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, one of the best center backs in the world and one of the best wide players in the world. 

The Senegalese team for this tournament, is enriched with world class players like Sadio Mane, Édouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gueye and Ismaila Sarr. No wonder they have been marked as one of the favorites for the final show-down.

The ‘Pharaohs’ of Egypt are currently the ‘king’s of the African continent, with seven championships to their credit. They are in Group ‘D’ with Guinea Bissau, Nigeria and Sudan, and are aiming for their eighth title. 

As usual, most of the ‘Pharaohs’ squad play at home, with some also playing overseas. The team is led by Mo Salah, one of the best players in the world, the team’s captain, Carlos Quieroz, Trézéguet, Omar Marmoush, and others.

With 25 AFCON appearances and Seven (7) titles, Egypt is marked as one of the favorites to win the AFCON 2022 title in Cameroon.
