The African Cup of Nations kicked off yesterday with some interesting matches. Hosts Cameroun saw off a strong Burkina Faso via 2 penalties. The other match saw 10 man Ethiopia defeated by Cape Verde by a solitary goal. In today’s first match Senegal managed to scrap past minnows Zimbabwe courtesy a Sadio Mane penalty.
The Black Stars started off their campaign with a clash against Atlas Lions of Morocco. With the absence of Kudos many had little hope in the team to go beyond the group stages. The match started with both sides trying to win the ball. There were very few chances in the first half as both keepers were hardly tested.
In the second half both sides returned with renewed energy.Though both sides tried to win the 50 50 balls their efforts at goal was nothing to be desired. As the game seemed to be heading to a draw the Moroccans pulled a string of passes that caught the Ghanaian defense watching and ended with a goal by Boufal. With barely 8 minutes to go the Ghana team struggled to come to terms with the goal against them. Milovan made 3 changes to the team as the time run out but this wasn’t enough as the Moroccans held on to their solitary lead.
