‘She is a thief and came to steal’ – 44-year-old Man defends butchering his maid at Sekondi

Ochola Alfred at midnight, heard sounds coming from the back of his house. The 44-year-old man watching television in his living room did not bother about the sound and thought it was a passerby walking away. Ochola after a few minutes, heard another sound coming from his front gate.

At 12:55 this morning, Ochola Alfred thought he was about to be robbed when his CCTV camera showed him footage of his front gate. Ochola came out of his room and found someone trying to open his front gate. The gate which has two locks had been locked at the button and yet, someone was trying to open the gate from the outside of the house.

Ochola with a kitchen cleaver knife hit the hands of the alleged robber before realizing it was his maid. Abena Nkrumah, 36, had returned from her house to attend to abandoned house chores in her master’s house, so she could have enough time to attend church service on Sunday morning, but was taken as a thief as his boss, Ochola Alfred had argued.

Ochola after hitting his maid Abena on the right hand, went further to strike another until he realized it was his maid. Together with other neighbours at Rosemary Apartments, Abena was taken to the Jemima Crenstil Hospital in Sekondi.

Abena Nkrumah who has refuted the allegations of her master Ochola Alfred, had stated that she was going to do laundry and prepare food for her master because of a Thanksgiving service she had this morning. My sister is going for a Thanksgiving service today and I wanted to do all the house chores in time so I could join her, Abena Nkrumah said in tears.

Ochola Alfred after he was arrested this morning, had defended that, Abena Nkrumah was rather a thief who was coming to steal. She is a thief and came to steal. That was what her actions portrayed. I did what everyone would have done in my situation.

She could have called me to open the gate for her instead of acting like a thief, Ochola defended himself at the Sekondi Police station. Abena Nkrumah in her submission, further stated that she didn’t want to wake her master up and that was why she was trying to open the doors from outside the house.

The victim Abena Nkrumah is still at the hospital whiles Ochola Alfred is at the Sekondi Police station fighting for bail.
