Check Out The NDC’s Response After Akufo-Addo Ordered The Suspension Of Benchmark Values Reversals

News of the reversal of Benchmark values have dominated media headlines this week. Government ordered for the reversal on over 40 commodities. These over 40 commodities were to see a 50% increase in their import taxes while vehicles that were imported were to witness a 30% increase. This reversal was seen by many especially the opposition National Democratic Congress as a means by the government to generate revenue.

The NDC argued that the government was broke and was doing everything possible to inflict taxes on the ordinary people. The week saw communicators of the NDC tour media houses to explain why the government was unfair to reverse the benchmark values. Well, President Akufo-Addo has heard and has ordered the reversals to be suspended.

In response to this directive, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC Communications Officer has said this is a victory for all Ghanaians. He thanked all those who supported their cause and fought for the values to be suspended. He called for more force till the reversal of benchmark values is totally dropped by the government. This means that goods like rice, sugar, spaghetti, biscuits, minerals, poultry, gum, cement, noodles pharmaceuticals etc. will retain their original prices.

It is yet to be seen the main reason of this directive to halt the reversals. Many believe it is due to intense pressure from Ghanaians.
