Suspended ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule’s planned visit to the Sumbandila branch in Madimbo as part of the party’s 110-anniversary celebrations has been plunged into limbo, this after the regional leadership mainly comprised of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s allies decided to pull the trigger on any such event.

Magashule is currently consigned to the doldrums of political arena after his unceremonious suspension for failure to step aside in line with the party’s Nasrec resolution, which lucidly states that all members facing corruption, and other serious criminal charges ought to withdraw from their positions until the finalisation of their legal matters.
And his planned visit to the Sumbandila branch on Friday, a day before the ANC holds its celebrations, was either not well-thought, or was done to demonstrate defiance, as the conditions governing his suspension debars him from participating in any ANC organsied events.

Also the visit is possibly as part of him lobbying and mobilizing support for his expected presidential campaign at the party’s elective conference in December.
However, he just might have to go back to the drawing board, as a letter purportedly from the Vhembe regional leadership made rounds on Social Media, instructing the Sumbandila to suspend the planned “visit of comrade Magashule”.

The Sumbandila branch is ironically led by a passionately vocal RET proponent, Fistos Mafela.
And you could argue that Magashule was merely testing the National Executive Committe’s patience by showing intent to disregard and basically violate his suspension conditions. This in turn could see him facing the prospect of expulsion from the party.

Speculation has swirled that those who belong to the mighty CR faction consider Magashule a rogue element who wants to hijack the soul of the party for nefarious purposes and they have bared fangs waiting for him to make one bad move and pounce on him like a tonne of bricks.
It is, therefore, one’s opinion that Magashule is not likely to visit Madimbo anymore, where he was expected to watch some amateur football matches, give a few groceries to poor families etc.
Unless of course the event goes ahead not as an ANC event.
