A member of the opposition national democratic congress (NDC), arrested by the police to stand trial for using the name of former President John Dramani Mahama to dupe unsuspecting people, has been granted a Ghs100,000 bail with three sureties, one of which should be justified with a landed property, by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Gabriel Agah, who is jobless and is a popular communicator of the national democratic congress in the Ashanti Region – a region which has traditionally been loyal to the governing new patriotic party (NPP), has found himself in trouble with the law for allegedly going about all the place, using the name of the former President Mahama to swindle unsuspecting people.
He has been accused of using the name of the ex-Head of State, to deceive and dishonestly take cash of Ghs150,000 from a businessman, Nana Opoku Agyemang.
The popular NDC communicator is facing a charge of defrauding by false pretense.
Gabriel Agah would be making his next court appearance on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 to continue with the judicial process
The accused had told the court during his first appearance in December, last year, that he is not guilty of any wrongdoing and he was ordered by the court, presided over by Jacqueline Avotri, to be held in police custody.
This was after the prosecution had made a plea to the court to remand the accused person to give the police more space to complete their investigations.
According to Police Chief Superintendent Kofi Blagodzi, Head of Legal and Prosecution, Ashanti Regional Police Command, the accused person was arrested by the police in Kumasi on December 12, 2021, based upon a tip off.
The police received information that Gabriel Agah had collected Ghs50,000 from the businessman and he was going for additional Ghs100,000, when the police arrested him.
