Ghana’s Group C opponents, Gabon have been hit by a bad news ahead of the 2021 AFCON opener.
The Gabonese landed in Cameroon for the AFCON but have had two of their players contract the deadly Corona Virus. Gabon have a squad rich in some good talent set to take a shot at the continental showpiece which starts in Cameroon in the next three days. Coach of the side, Anicet Yala is one of the members of the technical team who has been hit by the COVID-19 virus after tests came out positive. The biggest shock for the country is however captain of the side, Pierre Aubameyang who has been equally been hit by the deadly virus. Midfielder of the side, Mario Lemina has also contracted the COVID-19 virus ahead of the AFCON.
Pierre Aubameyang and Mario Lemina were apparently seen in a video partying in Dubai prior to the flying to Cameroon without respect to the COVID protocols. Results have now come out that they are positive to the virus.
The two players will miss their 2021 AFCON opener against Comoros on Monday, January 10 and their second game against Ghana on Friday, January 14. Head coach Patrice Neveu told AFP that the trio, who are all asymptomatic, are isolating in their hotel rooms and awaiting results of PCR tests.
