6-year-old boy found dead at Ohene Nkwanta near Konongo

Eric Ababio, a six-year-old boy has been found dead at Ohene Nkwanta MTI Basic School after falling into the Kyerekyere river yesterday afternoon. Eric who was found dead this morning had suffocated to death.

His stomach was filled with lots of water and that made him float on the river. He was found at 8 AM at the river bank which shares boundary with the MTI basic school, Obeng Prosper, an eyewitness said.

Eric according to the medical report, had drowned to death by suffocation. His lungs took more water which interfered with his breathing. The lungs became very heavy because of the excess intake of water and that forced oxygen from pumping into the lungs to the heart.

Suffocation is one of the deadliest death ever and as a 6-year-old child, he really suffered before dying, Dr Alice Ofori of Konongo Odumasi Government Hospital explained. Eric’s body has been taken to the mortuary while his burial is been arranged.

The father of Eric Ababio, Jonathan Ababio explained that he was at his shop working on a shoe project when he received a call yesterday afternoon. The call was not specific and demanded I come to the Kyerekyere river immediately.

I almost collapsed when I got there. My only son! my only son!! had been drowned, Jonathan Ababio cried. The rescue team was still searching the river and we had to abandon the search at 9 o’clock last night and continue this morning. We found the body after the river priest came to offer a libation to the river, Jonathan added.

Eric Ababio nobody knew what he went to do at the river but rumours circulating around his death, suggested that he was going to fetch water for his mother. Something the family had refuted against. Jonathan, the boy’s father had rubbished the rumours that his son was too young to be carrying water and his wife will never do that.
