Kangba, (UW/R), Dec. 31, GNA – Mr Richard Wulo, the Assembly Member for Siiru Electoral Area in the Wa West District says the lack of electricity at Kangba community is adversely affecting children’s access to quality education.

He said, aside children’s inability to study at night, the children were also lagging behind in terms of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) education as they did not have lessons in that subject.
Mr Wulo in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed concern about the fact that their children were not able to write ICT during the BECE Examination not because there were no teachers for that subject but because there was no electricity to take the children through the practical aspects.
“If you look at the Junior High School, the children do not write ICT in the BECE because they don’t learn it”, “The teachers are there but because there is no electricity, they can’t teach. In today’s world, no matter your level of intelligence, if you are computer illiterate, your intelligence is incomplete”, he added.
The Assembly Member noted that school children at Kangba could not participate in virtual teaching and learning during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country due to the lack of electricity in the community.
“During the outbreak of the COVID-19, schools were closed down and they were holding classes for children through television and radio, but the children here did not benefit from that because there was no electricity”, he explained.
Mr Wulo observed that Kangba was the 14th community among a list of 103 communities in the district to be connected to the national grid as announced by Mr Edward Laabiiri Sabo, the Wa West District Chief Executive in 2017.
“The community regrettably is still in darkness and there is no indication that the community will be connected to the national grid anytime soon”, he noted.
Mr Wulo explained that he was still negotiating with the DCE to ensure the community to be connected to the national grid.
Meanwhile, some residents of the community told the GNA that they felt neglected by the Wa West District Assembly.
