Israel Adesanya Maintains Unbeaten Record, Defeats Yoel Romero

Nigeria’s UFC fighter, Israel Adesanya registered his first official UFC title defense on Saturday when he defeated Yoel Romero in the UFC 248 main event.

Adesanya extended his unbeaten run with a unanimous decision victory over Romero to retain his middleweight in the headlining bout, which took place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

This was Adesanya’s first title defense after beating Robert Whittaker to win the middleweight title at UFC 243 last October.

“I did what I had to do and picked him apart,” Adesanya said. “The legs don’t lie. I f—ed his leg up.”

The fans booed the result and booed throughout. At one point in the third round, people in the crowd started shining the flashlights on their cellphones.

“As long as [the judges] didn’t listen to the crowd, I was fine,” Adesanya said.
